2022 Principals Announcement

Reed Hilderbrand is pleased to announce the expansion of its leadership through the elevation of two new Principals in the Cambridge office: Kristin Frederickson ASLA and Elizabeth Randall ASLA. Both are leaders within their studios and the firm, contributing to the enrichment and growth of the practice. They round out a team of 9 Principals who guide Reed Hilderbrand’s 65 landscape architects, designers, and staff working on selective commissions across the United States and beyond.

Principal Kristin Frederickson’s work has centered on historically and culturally significant sites for private, institutional, and public clients and on how to honor legacy while meeting the moment of our time. Kristin brings an uncompromising commitment to the specificity of a site and to engaging questions of beauty, authenticity, performance and equity. With the practice for sixteen years, she has contributed to the design and implementation of many well-known projects, including the Cranbrook 2030 Vision Plan and the rehabilitation and expansion of the Edwin Lutyens-designed estate Marsh Court, for which the firm received the ASLA Award of Excellence. She is currently leading the Franklin Park Action Plan for Boston’s largest public park and Longwood Reimagined, the ambitious renewal of Longwood Gardens’ western conservatory complex and surrounding 13 acres of gardens, which will feature a new Mediterranean garden under glass. Kristin has taught at Harvard Graduate School of Design and been a design critic at the GSD, RISD and Northeastern University, among others. She has presented at the ASLA annual conference and ABX Boston.

Since joining Reed Hilderbrand in 2008, principal Elizabeth (EB) Randall has developed a focus on strategic thinking, landscape planning and site design toward community resilience. She recently completed notable urban, public-facing commissions at Pier 4 in Boston and Water Street Tampa in Florida. Her current work includes the framework plan for Brewster’s Woods, a 143-acre Mass Audubon sanctuary along the Concord River; site design for various capital projects at Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and public realm design for portions of Harvard University’s future Enterprise Research Campus. For many years, EB has cultivated the firm’s culture of mentorship and has led hiring, staffing, professional development, and management initiatives. EB has taught at Harvard Graduate School of Design and served as a guest critic at Northeastern University; she has also addressed conferences of the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Florida ASLA, and the Urban Design Forum.

The promotions were announced during Reed Hilderbrand’s Summer Field Trip, which this year took the practice to the Hudson Highlands to visit Long Dock Park and preview an upcoming project at Storm King Art Center. The partners celebrated Elizabeth and Kristin with memories and toasts during happy hour and dinner in Newburgh.
