Storm King Art Center Breaks Ground
Storm King Art Center breaks ground — and welcomes a special guest! New York’s Governor Kathy Hochul delivered news that New York State is providing $11.3 million in support in recognition of Storm King’s regional importance and the capital project’s focus on sustainability. It was electrifying to hear Hochul cite Storm King Mountain as the birthplace of the modern environmental movement and a champion of all that New York does best: culture, inclusion, environment, and play.
Hochul chose the Storm King groundbreaking to announce a record $90.5 million in funding for large-scale capital projects at 19 arts and cultural organizations across New York State. The New York State Council on the Arts has agreed to provide $7.5 million for Storm King. Empire State Development has agreed to provide $3.2 million, as recommended by the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council. Additionally, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is providing $600,000 through the Carbon Neutral Community Economic Development program. All funding is made possible with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
