Williams College Museum of Art
We are so excited to finally share our work on the new Williams College Museum of Art. This project continues our work within the growing cultural commons that is Massachusetts’s North Berkshire County. It is our first announced project with Brooklyn’s SO-IL. The new WCMA will be home to 15,000 works in collection — a space designed with students in mind, fostering a sense of belonging for campus members and the wider community, and an inclusive experience for all visitors.
Our landscape for WCMA embraces the dynamic Berkshire scenery and its native plants. The design restores the existing forest fingers and creates stormwater bioretention basins. The site blends nature and art within a learning environment that fosters community connection. North of the building, site parking is tailored within a dramatic roll in topography the permits a “park-in-the-woods” experience. The project targets the Living Building Challenge Core 4.0 certification to achieve equity, beauty, wellness, and ecological integrity in response to our changing climate.
