Manatuck Farm
Agrarian features and geological heritage inform the design of a domestic landscape in dialog with a farm’s historical fabric, including a 600-foot-long granite wall.
This working farm near the coast offers views of Long Island Sound and features paddocks, fields, and ponds dating from the early 1800s. A contemporary home and garden are sited along the side slopes of a high ridge above the fields to incorporate a historic farm wall 600 feet in length and as high as 10 feet. Broad lawn steps connect the house and its terraces to the reflecting pool and garden organized along the wall. A new drive ascends the ridge from the country road through a series of hay fields and stone walls to arrive at the house.
