Reed Hilderbrand created a master plan for whole of the Corning Museum of Glass, in connection with the expansion by Thomas Phifer and Partners, extensively re-working visitor experience and establishing a one-acre terraced lawn beneath canopy trees.

Founded in 1951 on the occasion of Corning Glass Works’ 100th anniversary, the Corning Museum of Glass is home to a world-class collection of art and historical glass, and offers educational programs on the science and technology of the glass-making. To accommodate their growing collection of contemporary works of art in glass, the Museum has embarked on an addition to their eclectic assemblage of glass buildings. Reed Hilderbrand has conceived a master plan vision for the whole site and extensively reworked the visitor experience to accommodate tour buses. A new campus green on the site of a former parking lot will highlight the North Wing Expansion and the adjacent corporate offices; this 1-acre lawn will establish a cohesive campus sensibility for the currently fragmented site. Large canopy trees will offer shade and enclosure, and a stepped plaza will be a new focal point for outdoor gatherings and events
