Charles River Pier
Jutting dramatically over the Charles River, the pier was conceived as a haven for recovering Spaulding Hospital patients.
Surrounded by highways and waterfront industrial infrastructure, the project creates a serene landscape space at the junction of land and water through a ramp walk, and a dock. Patients can leave the confines of the hospital and join the public at the edge of the pier for panoramic views of the river. A portion of the Charles River path system weaves across the pier under the canopy of trees.
